EPA Brownfield Grant Program

In 2002, the Small Business Liability Relief and Brownfields Revitalization Act was passed to help states and communities around the country cleanup and revitalize brownfields sites.  Under this law, EPA provides financial assistance to eligible applicants through four competitive grant programs:

  • Assessment grants,
  • Revolving Loan Fund grants
  • Cleanup Grants
  • Job Training grants

Nye County EPA Brownfield Grants

Since 2002, Nye County has been actively involved in the EPA’s Brownfields program and the Nye County Brownfields program has received four major grant awards.  Prior to the formation of the RDSBC, Nye County was awarded Brownfield Assessment Grants in 2002 and in 2005.  Summary descriptions, fact sheets, and Environmental Site Assessment Reports for the properties that were assessed in Nye County are provided for the:  2002 Brownfields Assessment Pilot Grant and the 2005 Brownfields Assessment Grant.

Additionally, the County is incorporating the 2008 and 2012 Brownfields Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training Grants into its strategy for energy efficiency and conservation work.

RDSBC EPA Brownfield Grants

In 2011, Nye County joined with Esmeralda, Inyo, Lincoln, and White Pine counties to form the Rural Desert Southwest Brownfields Coalition.  Since 2001, the RDSBC has been awarded three major grants totaling $2.6M.   A summary listing of all the properties that have been assessed under the RDSBC is provided.
